History

Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio is an ancient wine, with origins dating back to Roman times. It was highly appreciated by the Romans, who considered it a wine of high quality.

During the Middle Ages, Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio was a popular wine throughout Europe. It was exported across the Mediterranean region and to England.

In the 19th century, the production of Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio declined due to vine diseases and competition from French wines.

In recent decades, the production of Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio has experienced a revival. The wine was granted DOC status in 1973 and is now one of the most celebrated Italian wines.
